I suggest you ...

Create software that will combine the text from Bookshare with the audio from Learning Ally

I prefer the natural voices of Learning Ally, and like to follow along in books as I listen to them. it would be great to have a software program or portable device that will allow me to listen to the audio of a book from Learning Ally with the text from bookshare.

I am new to the site and was searching to see if the robotic voice was due to the app I installed but I see it is the actual audio. My daughter is 8 years old and has dylexia. I was thrilled to get her bookshare but once we actually tried it, she was not impressed. In fact, she stated that the women's voice sounds creepy. The ability to follow the audio with the highlighted text is fantastic but, there were words the audio did not pronounce correctly (ha-ha for ex) and there were issue with pronunciation of words such as live with short i but long i was stated. I am worried that this audio will negatively effect her fluency and comprehension. I was so hoping the audio was more like that of learning ally while also including the highlighted text. That is was our print disabled children and adults need. Too bad there are legal issues involved.

This would be a great help.... I am currently using a Smartboard to show the text from one source concurrent with a different audio download source..... which I manually have to keep in syncronized, I think this is the next instructional step......I would love to be one of your first to do it.

I completely agree with this idea. I'm using Bookshare to support a visually impaired student with reading materials for his 7th grade language arts class. The natural voices are night and day compared to the machine-generated voices. Also, the page Learning Ally includes page numbers, which makes it easier for my student to reference text in completing assignments.

This is definitely an awesome idea. Particularly if the text could be highlighted as the text is read aloud. Computer generated voices are getting lots better but they still pale in comparison to a human voice.
